HOUSTON (AP) — When running back Dare Ogunbowale was thrust into action as Houston’s emergency kicker Sunday against Tampa Bay he was ready for whatever he might be asked to do.He handled the opening kickoff of the second half with kicker Kaʻimi Fairbairn out with a quadriceps injury and figured he’d soon be called on to kick an extra point. But his mindset changed after the Texans attempted 2-point conversions on three consecutive touchdowns.“Once they started doing the 2-point, I figured I was off it,” he said. “But I was staying ready for it.”And with the game tied in the fourth quarter, the Texans called on him to attempt his first field goal since high school. His 29-yard kick sailed straight through the uprights to put the Texans on top 33-30 with nine minutes to go. They went on to a 39-37 victory on a late TD pass by C.J. Stroud.“To win games in the league you never know what’s going to happen,” Ogunbowale said. “That game as you saw came down to the wire. LOS CABOS, Mexico (AP) — Erik van Rooyen made a 16-foot eagle putt on the par-5 closing hole Sunday to win the World Wide Technology Championship, a day after Matt Kuchar squandered a six-stroke lead with a late meltdown.Playing alongside Kuchar at Tiger Woods-designed El Cardonal at Diamante on the tip of Baja California, van Rooyen played the back nine in 8-under 28 in a 9-under 63. The 33-year-old South African finished at 27-under 261 for his second PGA Tour victory, two strokes ahead of Kuchar and Camilo Villegas.Kuchar and Villegas each shot 66, with the 45-year-old Kuchar parring the final four holes. The Chicago Bears’ offensive unraveling started with about 11 minutes to play in the fourth quarter Sunday at the Caesars Superdome.Trailing the New Orleans Saints by a touchdown, rookie quarterback Tyson Bagent sent a pass toward Darnell Mooney in the middle of the field, but safety Marcus Maye jumped in front of it for an interception.Bagent hopped a few times and then dropped to the ground for a few seconds as he processed the turnover. There were far too many of those moments in the Saints’ 24-17 win.Maye’s interception was one of five Saints takeaways, including four off Bagent. In what could be one of his last starts in place of injured starter Justin Fields — if not the last — Bagent threw three interceptions and lost a fumble. He committed three of those turnovers on the Bears’ final four drives of the fourth quarter — with the game within reach thanks to some big defensive stops.“It really just all comes down to myself in that ...Latest news
