MIAMI — Mark Canha made a secret tweak. He won’t reveal it, but it wasn’t anything major.“It was something that was this big,” the Mets’ outfielder said, holding up two fingers less than an inch apart. It was a small adjustment that paid big dividends. One night after the Mets had a dismal offensive showing against the Miami Marlins, they answered some questions to move to 2-1 on the season.Canha had a home run, a double, an RBI single, a walk and three runs scored and Omar Narvaez went 2-for-3 with two RBI to beat the Marlins 6-2 on Saturday at LoanDepot Park. Right-hander Tylor Megill went five innings to earn the win in place of Justin Verlander and the Mets played stellar defense behind him.“Big,” manager Buck Showalter said. “He did a lot of things well today, but Mark does every day. After a chat with Hottovy between innings, everything clicked for Steele.“I definitely found a rhythm,” Steele said. “Once I got going, I was in a groove and got comfortable out there.”Steele completed six shutout innings, scattering three hits, striking out eight and walking one batter. The Cubs failed to capitalize on Steele’s performance in a 3-1 loss. Steel...High winds expected to set in for San Diego mountains, deserts; NWS watch in effect

Some of that was his own doing.“Didn’t have great stuff and didn’t have good command at all,” Gray said. “It just felt a tick off.”So it came as somewhat of a gift in the third inning when, after walking the bases loaded, Royals designated hitter Franmil Reyes was rung up for a pitch-clock violation for not being ready in time, which caused an automatic strike to be added to the count. All of a sudden, in the biggest moment of his start, Gray’s job suddenly became easier through nothing of his own doing.“It’s 0-1 and you can start expanding the zone a little earlier than maybe you would have,” Gray said. “He saw one less pitch throughout that. … It worked out on our side, so it...Latest news
