BOSTON (WCVB) — When a man shouting odd claims and making threats aboard a United Airlines flight from Los Angeles to Boston stepped into the aisle, one passenger from a neighboring row immediately stood up to confront him. That passenger was Jeff Neil, of Exeter, New Hampshire, who was sitting with his wife aboard United Flight 2609 on Sunday. The man making the threats was identified by federal prosecutors as Francisco Severo Torres, 32, of Leominster. He faces charges of interference and attempted interference with flight crew members and attendants using a dangerous weapon.Prior to the physical confrontation aboard the plane, Torres allegedly tried to open a door in mid-flight. Court documents show the door’s alarm was triggered about 45 minutes prior to the flight’s arrival in Boston and a flight attendant saw the door’s locking handle had been moved.Airplane doors cannot be opened once in flight due to cabin pressure.Neil said he witnessed one of the flig...UK’s Rishi Sunak wants migrants return deal with the EU

PARIS — U.K. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak hopes the recent improvement in relations with the EU will pave the way for an agreement to return undocumented migrants to the bloc, he said en route to France for a bilateral summit with Emmanuel Macron.Speaking to reporters on the Eurostar train to Paris on Friday morning, Sunak said he hoped the Windsor Framework agreed last week with the European Commission would open the way for a deal on migration with the EU.Asked by POLITICO if he was aiming to negotiate an agreement to return undocumented migrants from Britain to the bloc, Sunak said he hoped to broach the subject later on Friday at his bilateral meeting with the French president.“I think now, post the Windsor Framework being agreed, my hope is that that opens up other areas of constructive engagement and dialogue and cooperation with the EU,” he said. “I think we are starting to see some of that from [Commission] President [Ursula] von der Leyen the other we...Belgium bans TikTok on government phones

Belgium’s National Security Council Friday banned the use of TikTok on work phones of government officials, the latest in a series of European governments cracking down on the Chinese-owned social media app.“We can’t be naive: TikTok is a Chinese company that currently is mandated to cooperate with Chinese intelligence services,” Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo said in a statement shared with POLITICO.The Belgian ban is based on a risk analysis by the country’s intelligence services and recommendations by the national cybersecurity center. It was issued for a period of six months, after which Belgian authorities will re-evaluate its guidelines. The popular Chinese video app was banned by EU institutions at the end of February in a series of decisions that prevent staff from using and installing the app on work-related phones. TikTok, which is owned by Chinese tech firm ByteDance, this week launched a European charm offensive and promised changes to its data...MBTA: All trains restricted to 10-25 mph speed limit

The MBTA announced Thursday that all Red, Orange, Green, and Blue line trains are restricted to a speed limit of 10-25 miles per hour, effective immediately. The restrictions come in response to findings of a site visit by the Department of Public Utilities on Monday to check on track maintenance conditions on the Red Line between Ashmont and Savin Hill stations, according to the MBTA.The next day, the DPU sent the MBTA letters laying out a list of areas where immediate action needs to be taken. Some of the problem areas include track conditions, third rail insulators, headlight use within tunnels, and PPE compliance. The DPU is also asking the T to investigate two incidents of operators overshooting the station entirely. The MBTA’s Chief Safety Officer Ronald Ester says that some of these problems needed to be addressed within 24 hours, and they have already provided those reports to the DPU. For other issues, the DPU needs a response from the T by the end of the bus...Latest news
