Colorado attorney suspended over revenge porn, attempted blackmail

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 16:39:04 GMT

A former Colorado Springs public defender will be suspended from practicing law for 90 days after he sent a sexually explicit video of a woman with whom he’d had an affair to her husband when the affair ended, according to state disciplinary records.Attorney Christopher Melichar, 41, began the six-month affair with the married woman in August 2020, while he was working as a public defender, according to the disciplinary records. During the affair, the woman sent Melichar nude photos of herself, and he also filmed her during sexual encounters, though she later told Melichar she did not consent to the recordings because she was too intoxicated to do so.After the affair ended, Melichar threatened to send the sexually explicit photos and videos to the woman’s husband, according to the records. At one point he texted her that she “needs to earn everything. I have videos,” according to the records. When the woman refused to continue the sexual relationship, Melicha...

Kicking competition a small part of eventful month for CU Buffs’ Jace Feely

BOULDER,CO: April 5: Colorado kicker Jace Feely during spring football practice on April 5, 2023, at the Buffaloes’ indoor practice facility. (Cliff Grassmick/Staff Photographer)About a month ago, new Colorado kicker Jace Feely underwent a heart procedure. A minor one by the standards of heart procedures, yet a significant one nonetheless.Less than two weeks ago, Feely got engaged. Talk about opposing tugs at the heartstrings. No doubt, it’s been an eventful month for Feely, the son of former NFL kicker Jay Feely and a transfer from Arizona State who is trying to stake his claim to the starting job this spring for the Buffaloes.Feely said he endured cardio ablation surgery, which treats heart rhythm problems but said he’s a “full go” as the Buffs continue spring practice this week.“I know I had (the heart issue), something similar to it back at ASU and I only thought I was taking too much caffeine or something like that,” Feely said. “Then I got up here and it...

Kiszla vs. Durando: Are the Avalanche ready to make another Stanley Cup run?

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 16:39:04 GMT

Kiz: Well, after Nathan MacKinnon and the Avs barnstormed through California, they not only control their destiny, but have every reason to believe that winning the Central Division is within their grasp. A month ago, I would’ve said it was iffy to project this edition of the Avalanche to win even a single round in the NHL playoffs. But now? The outlook is much sunnier. What’s a realistic definition of success for Colorado, with the postseason now just around the corner?Durando: The team with the best record in the West since mid-January should define success as winning the West. The Avs clearly have the firepower to do it again, especially in a conference widely considered to be the weaker of the two. I’ll say this, though: For as much flak as the West has taken since the trade deadline, there are several teams that decided to heat up at the right time. I’m both more impressed by the Avalanche’s direction than I was a month ago and more convinced that ...

California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Monday that the state had secured an emergency stockpile of up to two million pills of Misoprostol, an abortion medication drug. The announcement comes after a Texas-based federal judge on Friday pulled back the FDA approval of Mifepristone, another abortion medication. The move could make Mifepristone unavailable in the U.S. in the future, NPR reported. California bill would ban the sale of Skittles, Hot Tamales & other food items “In response to this extremist ban on a medication abortion drug, our state has secured a stockpile of an alternative medication abortion drug to ensure that Californians continue to have access to safe reproductive health treatments,” Newsom said in a statement.“We will not cave to extremists who are trying to outlaw these critical abortion services. Medication abortion remains legal in California.”While Mifepristone is part of a two-drug regime, Misoprostol can be safely used independently, according to Newsom’...
