The Mets may potentially have a logjam at the catching spot in a week or two.Gary Sanchez got into the Mets’ lineup for the first time Sunday in the first game of a doubleheader against the Cleveland Guardians. The Mets were not going to use Francisco Alvarez for both games of a doubleheader so the former Yankees’ backstop is tasked with catching right-hander Max Scherzer for the first time.“They’re both good options and they’ve got a chance to contribute,” manager Buck Showalter said Sunday morning at Citi Field. “We knew that Max was going to pitch the first game and Justin (Verlander) the second, we wanted to keep them in order. I don’t want Gary waiting around too long, you don’t want him to get too far away from catching.”Showalter didn’t go into all of the reasons they chose Sanchez to catch Scherzer, but during his tenure with the Mets, Scherzer has never been particular about working with specific catchers.How...Yankees sweep Reds as Boone, Bell ejected

Catch a falling star if you can, and by all means put it in your pocket, but don’t try to cross international borders with it lest you run afoul of a little-known Canadian law.An American museum will have to navigate that law’s intricacies should it try to buy portions of a meteorite believed to have landed in New Brunswick last month. A fireball ripped through the Earth’s atmosphere on April 8 and landed somewhere in the province, prompting the Maine Mineral and Gem Museum to offer a US$25,000 reward for the first one kilogram meteorite recovered. But Chris Herd, a professor at the University of Alberta and curator of its meteorite collection, said obtaining the asteroid fragments won’t be as simple as making an offer. “In Canada, all meteorites are considered Canadian cultural property automatically through the Cultural Property Export and Import Act,” he said in an interview. “… “If it’s public property, say an American c...White Sox place Mike Clevinger on injured list

By Emily Weinstein, The New York TimesI happen to live near a small but great seafood market, where the fish is impeccably fresh. Their poached shrimp is plump and juicy; the housemade cocktail sauce has just the right zing. I bought them once or twice as a starter for a special meal. But one day I realized that I was holding back: What I really wanted was to eat shrimp cocktail for dinner. And so I did. And it was great. There is a problem, though: This place is open only a few days each week, for a few hours in the middle of the day, which is precisely the time I can’t go seafood shopping. So when I have a craving, I turn to recipes like Melissa Clark’s new roasted shrimp cocktail, which I can make anytime, no trips to the store, with frozen shrimp. (Always keep a bag of frozen shrimp in your freezer. It’s cost-effective and very useful.) That recipe, along with four others I’m excited about, are below.1.
