VANCOUVER — Teck Resources Ltd.’s board of directors has rejected the latest takeover offer from Swiss company Glencore as it updates the terms of its own restructuring proposal. The Canadian mining company said Thursday the revised offer from the mining giant is not in the best interest of shareholders.Teck said its board and management team remain committed to its plan announced in February to split up its metal and steelmaking coal businesses into two companies, Teck Metals and Elk Valley Resources. The company updated the proposal Thursday to allow for an earlier split of the two companies, and to cap the spending of its spun-off coal division to maximize free cash flow.Glencore revised its unsolicited offer for Teck earlier this week to include an US$8.2-billion cash component. The proposal would see Teck shareholders receive 24 per cent of the combined metals company and cash. Teck called the Glencore offer “opportunistic and unrealistic.”Teck board chair She...Cyberattack knocks out website and mobile app for Quebec’s hydro utility

(NEXSTAR) – Move aside La Niña – it's almost time for El Niño to take over.National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Climate Prediction Center issued an "El Niño watch" Thursday morning, saying the climate pattern is expected to form sooner than previously anticipated. After La Niña ended last month, we entered "ENSO-neutral" conditions, which means neither La Niña nor El Niño is present. Those neutral conditions were expected to end at some point in the summer or early fall. But as of Thursday, it looks as though the timeline has moved up. Forecasters said there is a 62% chance El Niño will take over between May and July. The probability that El Niño will form by fall is even higher, between 80% and 90%. La Niña is officially over, NOAA announces: What does that mean? What would that mean for our weather? We usually feel the strongest effects of El Niño as we get closer to winter. An El Niño fall and winter would be the inverse of what we’ve seen the last ...Renderings of new Uvalde school include tribute to Robb Elementary victims

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — An alternate juror in the trial of a U.S. Army sergeant convicted of murder said Wednesday that Texas Gov. Greg Abbott's rush for a pardon is an “egregious overreach” to wipe aside the jury's unanimous decision over a 2020 shooting during a Black Lives Matter protest. TIMELINE: The latest with the Daniel Perry case In an interview with The Associated Press, Jere Dowell said prosecutors put on a convincing case against Daniel Perry, who was in his car working as a ride-share driver when he shot 28-year-old Garrett Foster, who had been legally carrying an AK-47 while marching with demonstrators through downtown Austin. As an alternate, Dowell did not have a vote in convicting Perry but said she was in the room for deliberations and she agreed with the verdict handed down Friday. “I just think it’s a travesty,” Dowell said of Abbott already seeking a pardon.
