DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) — Across the room from Ford Advanced Product Development chief Doug Field was a pile of two-dozen auto parts, each with its own small computer, and software written by the parts manufacturer.Field, who was hired away from running Apple’s secret auto project two years ago, and before that served as Tesla head of engineering, explained at an investor event that the automaker is moving to get rid of the pile, consolidating most computing decisions into a central processor running software written by Ford. The change will fundamentally change how people use their cars. Most automakers are counting on software services to boost future profit margins.Field, 57, also Ford’s chief technology officer, talked to The Associated Press about the change and the transformation to electric vehicles. The interview is edited for length and clarity.Q: How far along is Ford on moving to this central computing system? GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — The Swamp is getting a makeover, a significant overhaul that’s expected to cost at least $400 million and be a “multigeneration solution” for an aging and iconic stadium in the heart of Florida’s campus. The Gators announced plans Monday to hire an architect for the design of its revamped Florida Field, the first public step in a process that’s been ruminating for years. The school will open a formal bidding process in July.Athletic director Scott Stricklin said it’s “premature to speculate” on the final cost, seating capacity and a specific timeline. But he made it clear the project’s main goal will be to transform the game-day experience for fans while maintaining a lot of what helped the Gators create one of the most daunting home-field advantages in the Southeastern Conference.“Whatever work we do there doesn’t need to be a Band-Aid,” Stricklin said at the league’s spring meetings last month.

The top 10 best new TV series of 2023

PARIS — A controversial fundraising campaign to help the family of the policeman who killed teenager Nahel M. in France has topped €1 million. The campaign was launched on popular U.S. platform GoFundMe by a French far-right figure and on Monday reached the €1 million mark — nearly five times more than a fundraising effort to help the 17-year-old’s mother. Despite the controversy, GoFundMe said it wouldn’t take the campaign down. On Monday, French ministers invited on radio and TV shows painstakingly tried to avoid taking a stance on the subject. “Everyone can express their feelings and contribute to a fund … But I think, in this case, that it doesn’t go in the direction of appeasement,” Justice Minister Eric Dupond-Moretti told France Inter. The killing of the 17-year-old of North African descent by a police officer last week has thrown France into chaos, sparking violent demonstrations across the country and re-igniting long-simmering tensi...Tyson will stop using its ‘no antibiotics ever’ label on chicken

New York (CNN) — Tyson will once again use certain antibiotics in its chickens, eight years after it announced plans to ditch the drugs in some of its production and slapped a “no antibiotics ever” label on its packaging. The company said the antibiotics it plans to use in chicken production are not important to the treatment of humans. Antibiotic use in food has come under intense scrutiny in recent years as some bacteria have become increasingly resistant to treatments as a result of frequent exposure to antibiotics. The Wall Street Journal first reported Tyson’s change.About half of US poultry farmers use some form of antibiotics to help keep chickens healthy, the company noted. London (CNN) — Saudi Arabia and Russia announced Monday that they would make additional cuts to oil supply as a global economic slowdown hangs over the outlook for energy demand.Saudi Arabia — the world’s biggest exporter of crude oil — said it would extend a cut of 1 million barrels a day in its oil production at least until the end of August. The cut, which took effect on Saturday, was initially planned to last for the month of July in an attempt to shore up oil prices.Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said that his country would voluntarily cut supplies by 500,000 barrels per day in August by cutting exports. Reuters reported, citing Novak’s office, that Russia would reduce production by that amount, deepening a cut of the same size Moscow implemented in March. The announcements sent prices for Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, up 0.7% to trade at $76 a barrel at 7.15 a.m. ET. WTI, the US benchmark, rose 0.8% to $71. Oil prices have fallen by more ...Latest news
