NEW YORK (WPIX) — Even though former President Donald Trump has been indicted for his alleged role in a hush money payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels, it’s not guaranteed the fiery politician would serve time in jail or prison if he’s convicted, experts said.Trump was charged with 34 felony counts of falsifying business records during his arraignment in a Manhattan court Tuesday. Falsifying business records would normally be charged as misdemeanors, charges that would not usually result in prison time. But they were bumped up to felonies because they were done in an effort to commit or conceal other crimes, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said. Each felony count corresponds to one of the 34 documents the grand jury said contained a false statement about the payments, according to Politifact. As felony charges, each count carries a maximum of four years in prison, the New York Post reports, meaning the former president is technically facing a maximum 136-year sentence ...$144.5 million tentative settlement reached in Sutherland Springs Church shooting case

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- A tentative agreement to settle civil cases related to a mass shooting at a Texas church in 2017 was reached Wednesday, according to the U.S. Department of Justice. Twenty-six people were killed and 22 injured in the November 2017 shooting at First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs, Texas, which is just west of San Antonio. "The tentative settlements will resolve claims by more than 75 plaintiffs," according to the DOJ. The plaintiffs' claims alleged that the Air Force was "negligent" when it did not provide information to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, or NICS, about the shooter "that would have prevented him from purchasing guns from a federally licensed firearms dealer," the announcement from the DOJ said.Last year, U.S. District Judge Xavier Rodriguez ordered the federal government to pay nearly $230 million to the victims and victims' family members. The DOJ later filed an appeal looking to overturn that ruling. Previous coverage: U...Protein bars sold at Costco recalled from stores in 8 states, including Texas, over undeclared allergen

With a 50/50 chance that the Mississippi River will reach major flood stage by mid-April, the city of St. Paul has declared a local flood emergency in advance of anticipated spring flooding. For now, the declaration is mostly procedural, as it empowers the city to mobilize resources in a hurry if waters rise high enough to impact residents and infrastructure. That’s still an “if,” but recent snowfall, ongoing snow melt and future precipitation will likely lead to some “significant spring flooding,” according to a written statement from St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter’s office. The river is expected to crest on April 17.The Mississippi River, currently at about five feet, reaches minor flood stage in downtown St. Paul at 14 feet, moderate flood stage at 15 feet and major flood stage at 17 feet. In 2014 and 2019, it surpassed 20 feet. The highest crest ever recorded in downtown St. Paul was 26.01 feet on April 16, 1965.A flood emergency declaration allo...GOP lawmaker wins Wis. AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) - Wednesday at Augusta National Golf Club marks the eve of the 87th Masters Tournament. The field will begin the day with an opportunity to play a final practice round before every stroke counts. It represents one more chance to play the new-look No. 13, lengthened by 35 yards prior to this year's tournament."You obviously don't really have a chance to turn the corner as much as people did in the past and have a short iron, right," said Jon Rahm, the 2021 U.S. Open champion and No. 3 ranked player in the Official World Golf Ranking. "I've been able to hit an 8-iron there into the green and obviously that's a huge advantage. I think they just wanted it to play the way it's meant to be played. It kind of gets to a point that 11 being a par 4 being longer than 13, it's a bit odd."
