MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Gunfire erupted in an area of Miami Beach crowded with people on spring break, killing one person, wounding another and sending dozens scrambling for safety, police said.Two males were shot Friday night, and one person was detained at the scene, the Miami Beach Police Department tweeted. It wasn’t clear if the person being held was the shooter. Police also said three guns were recovered.The shooting happened on South Beach’s Ocean Drive, which is closed to vehicle traffic along its busiest stretch as hundreds of people gather to celebrate spring break. One of the victims died at a hospital and the second person was listed in critical condition, police said. (KOIN) — The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) says a 66-year-old man who shot a herd of elk in Tillamook County blamed the shooting on "elk fever" when turning himself in to the police.ODFW reported the shooting on Thursday afternoon, though the incident took place months prior in January. AUSTIN (KXAN) — After rainy weather canceled Billboard's concert at South by Southwest on Thursday, the music company announced ticket buyers would be refunded. The March 16 concert was supposed to be the first night of Billboard's The State at SXSW series, which continued Friday night and will end Saturday. The events are held outdoors at the Moody Amphitheater. Just more than two weeks after Lindsay Whalen stepped down as basketball coach at her alma mater, Minnesota has hired her successor, Dawn Plitzuweit, who led South Dakota to the NCAA Sweet 16 in 2022.The university and Plitzuweit have agreed to a six-year contract pending Board of Regents approval and the completion of a background check. The FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office is offering a reward of up to $20,000 for information related to the kidnapping of 63-year-old U.S. citizen Maria del Carmen Lopez. Lopez, a dual citizen of the United States and Mexico, was abducted from her residence in Pueblo Nuevo in the Mexican state of Colima on Feb. 9 by several hooded men. The mother of seven and her husband have been living in Mexico for the last 10 years after raising their family in the Los Angeles area. One year after his wife died of a heart attack at last year’s L.A. Marathon, Ryan Paddock will be lacing up his shoes and running to honor her legacy. Trisha Paddock was running as part of a charity team that was raising money for the Asian American Drug Abuse Program at last year’s half marathon when she collapsed at the finish line and died of a heart attack shortly after.
