‘Longer than any game I’ve ever been a part of’ – Sequoia, Palo Alto play 19-inning, six-hour baseball epic Sequoia and Palo Alto played a marathon of marathon games, 19 innings stretched across almost six hours, with 13 players throwing 576 pitches during 158 plate appearances. The result Saturday was the most grueling 7-4 victory of Sequoia coach Mike Doyle’s career.“I’ve been involved in a few nine- or 10-inning games, but it was eight or nine innings longer than any game I’ve ever been a part of,” said Doyle, who has been with the Sequoia program for nearly a decade and played high school and college baseball in the Midwest in the 1980s. The game was longer than any at the MLB level in 2022 and six innings off the United States high school record, a 25-inning affair in 1975 between East Bay schools Hayward and San Lorenzo. When asked if he wanted to play seven more innings to break the record, Doyle was quick to answer.“No,” he told the Bay Area News Group with a laugh. “We had a great day, and 19 innings was enough. We’ll let Hayward and San Lorenzo keep the record.”On Friday, Sequoi...
