Coast Guard apprehends 15 on overloaded boat off Orange County coast

The United States Coast Guard captured 15 undocumented migrants attempting to enter the United States in Orange County on Thursday, officials said. The USCG cutter Forrest Rednour spotted an overloaded 36-foot sportfishing boat headed north near San Clemente at around 4:30 p.m., the Coast Guard said in a news release. Officials said the truck driver died and other people were injured.The wreck happened shortly after 11 a.m. on the southbound side of the Gold Star Memorial Bridge carrying the highway over the Thames River between New London and Groton. The Gold Star actually comprises two steel truss bridges, one for southbound traffic and the other for northbound. The northbound side has since reopened.Gov. SAN JOSE — A pedestrian hit by a vehicle earlier this week has died from his injuries, authorities said Friday.The unidentified man died Thursday at a hospital, two days after being hit when a vehicle veered into the southbound lanes of N. White Road. Authorities did not identify him, pending notification of his next of kin.The fatality marked the sixth pedestrian death of the year in San Jose. There have been eight fatal traffic collisions in the city this year and nine traffic deaths. In 2022, the city saw a modern-day record 65 traffic deaths.The collision happened about 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday on N. White Road near Kentridge Drive.
