MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — Coco Gauff let a big lead slip away and wound up dropping the last five games of a mistake-filled 6-7 (8), 7-5, 6-2 loss to Anastasia Potapova in the third round of the Miami Open on Saturday. The No. 6-seeded Gauff, a 19-year-old from Florida, was critical of herself afterward, saying that her footwork wasn’t great, that her mindset was off and that she played too defensively after serving for the victory at 5-3 in the second set.“That’s kind of been where I’ve been messing up in all my matches this year. All the ones I’ve lost I think I lost because of that. I think it should be more used as a tool in a toolbox than as a weapon,” Gauff said. “I think I have to change my mentality in the game about not relying on that too much because I think sometimes I play a little bit too passive because I know I can get to balls.”She heard chants of “Let’s go, Coco!” from spectators at the hard-court tournament as she overcame a 5-2 deficit in the opening set, t...Today in History: March 26, Beethoven dies at age 56

Crews have begun working on removing four dams on the Klamath River which tribes and other groups have lobbied to take down for decades. The early removal work involves upgrading bridges and constructing roads to allow greater access to the remote dams, which are expected to be fully down by the end of 2024. The dam removal on the 38-mile stretch of the river comes after an agreement between the last dam owner PacifiCorp, California, Oregon, the Yurok Tribe, the Karuk Tribe and a multitude of environmental organizations, with the goal of restoring salmon populations. The Klamath River Renewal Corporation held a news conference on Thursday giving an update on their work in dismantling the dams and restoring habitats.“We have broken ground on the world’s biggest salmon restoration project to date, and as most of you all know, this can’t come a moment too soon,” Craig Tucker, the Natural Resources Policy Advocate for the Karuk Tribe, said at the news conference. “Recent news stories have...High school golfer hospitalized after he’s struck by fallen tree branch at Santa Cruz County club

That team in many ways failed to live up to their potential on the court, finishing the year 13-16 after being eliminated in the first round of the CCAA conference tournament. It presented incremental progress, a step in the right direction. Even as the athletic director departed, it appeared the program would stay the course under its current construction. In interviews with the Times-Standard, the players of the Humboldt men’s basketball team have presented their picture of the internal reality. In interviews with seven current members of the team (five of which are quoted in this article), they detailed a culture that is a shocking contrast to the facade that existed on the surface...California man, former military member pleads guilty to unlawfully exporting war tools to Russia
