Editor’s Note: The video above shows KXAN News Today’s top headlines for April 5, 2023.LIBERTY HILL, Texas (KXAN) — A Liberty Hill ISD elementary school apologized to parents in a letter after a student's "inappropriate" comment led to misinformation, according to a letter from the school.A student at Santa Rita Elementary School told a student there was a gun in their backpack, and the letter said the student then told a teacher.After a three-hour investigation involving Liberty Hill ISD police, the student did not have a gun or access to a gun at home, the letter said. BASTROP COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — The Boring Company received three violations — two moderate and one minor — from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality last week for its Bastrop facility, according to TCEQ records.The violations are for the company's stormwater permit, which was issued in April 2022, according to TCEQ. Three violations were reported in October 2022, investigated in November and the violation notice was posted March 28. AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Police Department released details Wednesday surrounding a traffic fatality that occurred the morning of March 31 in the 2900 block of North Interstate 35 Upper Deck southbound.APD said officers responded to a crash between a two-door car and an SUV at approximately 5:14 a.m.According to police, a preliminary investigation showed 24-year-old Milton Castanon-Villatoro crashed his car into the SUV and left the scene without stopping to render aid or call 911. ST. LOUIS - A Byrnes Mill, Missouri, man appeared in federal court on Wednesday and admitted possessing pipe bombs and methamphetamine during a traffic stop.Prosecutors with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Missouri said Douglas Moore, 47, was pulled over on May 11, 2021, by a Jefferson County Sheriff's deputy for driving a 2004 Suzuki Aerio with expired plates. Following the arrest, the deputy searched Moore's vehicle and found pipe bombs and methamphetamine.Moore was also on probation at the time of his arrest and had pending charges in both Ste. Genevieve and Jefferson counties.Moore pleaded guilty to one count of possession of an unregistered destructive device.
