WASHINGTON (AP) — As the Supreme Court decides the fate of affirmative action, most U.S. adults say the court should allow colleges to consider race as part of the admissions process, yet few believe students’ race should ultimately play a major role in decisions, according to a new poll. The May poll from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research found that 63% say the Supreme Court should not block colleges from considering race or ethnicity in their admission systems. NASHVILLE, Ill. - A routine traffic stop involving a moped led authorities to a large meth bust over the weekend in southern Illinois. Prosecutors have charged Matthew Rutherford, 28 of Zeigler, Illinois, and Mackenzie Wiggins, 20 of Benton, Illinois, with several felonies in the investigation. Around midnight on Sunday, officers with the Nashville (Illinois) Police Department pulled over a man on a moped that did not have any registration tags displayed. The driver was later identified as Rutherford. He was pulled over in the driveway of a Shell gas station on State Route 127 in Washington County. A Tennessee woman whose family says she disappeared while on a road trip with her boyfriend was seen at a Walmart in California over Memorial Day weekend, law enforcement said. A deputy in Cheatham County, Tennessee, said Nikki Alcaraz was spotted at a Walmart in Redding, California, on Saturday, KTLA sister station WKRN reports. A burglar broke into a Newport Beach home and stole from its safe this past weekend.Sometime between 6 p.m. Friday and 10:30 a.m. Saturday, a burglar shattered the back glass door of a home in the 3100 block of Broad Street in the Newport Heights neighborhood, according to a news release from the Newport Beach Police Department.The resident was gone at the time of the break-in, police said.While inside the home, the burglar "rummaged through the master bedroom, master bathroom and office," police said. After they found a safe, the burglar "pried it open" and stole some of what was inside — police indicated passports were taken but did not list out any other losses — before escaping, authorities added. The Newport Beach Police Department is looking for two men who allegedly tried to enter a home in the Mariners Community by using a ladder to get to a second-story window.The men, both believed to be about 5 feet 10 inches tall and 170 pounds, were spotted by the residents of the home in the 1300 block of Estelle Lane at about 9:10 p.m. Friday night, police said in a news release. A noise from the courtyard roused the residents out of bed, and one of them spotted the two men using a ladder to try to get into the home's second story, police said.After a resident yelled at the men, they fled out of the side gate. Chick-fil-A and McDonald’s are introducing app features that will track a customer’s location to ensure that their meal will be ready once they get to the restaurant, Insider reported.Chick-fil-A announced in May that when customers place a curbside or carryout order under the new feature, the restaurant will be alerted when the customer is close so staff can start preparing the food.
